Denmark Spring Break 2019 (For Gitte’s Students) 2019-04-02T21:52:15+00:00

The Denmark spring break program introduces you to New York through the lens of inequality. New York is one of the world’s most dynamic cities, but its citizens benefit unequally from its amazing success. Through curated learning experiences in and outside the classroom, you will experience not only the famous sights, but you’ll also come away with a deeper understanding of life in New York and America today.

Day 1: Arrive in New York

Students arrive and settle into hotel accommodations.

Day 2: NYC Bus Tour and Rockefeller Center
Orientation & Lecture: Inequality in New York
St. Patrick’s Cathedral
Dinner at Times Square

Learn about New York’s storied past and dynamic present as we explore Manhattan – the heart of the Big Apple and New York’s most populous borough — where you’ll see some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including Times Square and Rockefeller Center.

Day 3: Wall Street Walking Tour
Federal Hall, Trinity Church & Battery Park Memorial
Empire State Building at Night

Day 4: Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
National 9/11 Memorial
Dinner in Little Italy

Visit the Statue of Liberty and historic Ellis Island, where millions of immigrants came to America between 1892 and 1954, then experience the moving National 9/11 Memorial honoring victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Day 5: MoMA
Shopping on 5th Avenue
Baseball Game

Experience the vibrancy of New York life everyone talks about by visiting one of the nation’s most famous art museums, before partaking in world-class shopping on 5th Ave and checking out a professional baseball game – the storied national sport that is bound with American identity.

Day 6: Walking tour of Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn
Visit to Food Bank

Go on a walking tour of Brooklyn and across New York’s iconic bridge — the first steel-wire suspension bridge in the US — then learn more about the challenges faced by less affluent New Yorkers by visiting a food bank that helps provide meals for local seniors.

Day 7: The Met Museum
United Nations Tour
Broadway Show

See why New York is considered both a world political and an arts capital by visiting the largest art museum in the country, the U.S. headquarters for the United Nations, and the legendary theatres of Broadway—where students will witness an unforgettable live performance.

Central Park Picnic
Dinner at Eataly and 5th Ave. shopping

Learn about America’s natural history at one of the largest museums in the world and enjoy a festive picnic in the city’s most famous park before exploring Eataly’s Italian marketplace and one last change to shop the shopping mecca that is New York’s 5th Ave
